let’s occupy schools
let’s occupy the streets
let’s occupy theaters
let’s occupy universities
let’s occupy it all!
One year after its premiere and presentations in several spaces of São Paulo, coletivA Ocupação presents a new season of Quando Quebra Queima [When It Breaks It Burns]. The project was born at Casa do Povo, serving since 2015 as the meeting point and place of practice of coletivA.
Quando Quebra Queima [When It Breaks It burns] is a performance with participants of the mobilization of high school students between 2015 and 2016, going through occupations and manifestations. As a fruit of the spring of high school students, fifteen insurgent bodies displace to the stage their experience inside the occupied schools, thus creating a collective, common narrative from the perspective of those who lived the daily life of this movement in all its intensity – one of the major political events of the recent years.
Situated in the borders of theater and performance art, the piece is a collective “dance-struggle” built upon the experiences and memories of each performer: diaries, texts, protest songs, choreographies, and photographs taken by themselves compose the ensemble.
