MEXA, according to the collective itself, is formed by "an interdisciplinary team: artist, activist, hairdresser, actress, filmmaker, communicator, journalist, photographer and those unemployed (...), LGBT, QIA and wheelchair-bound". It uses artistic tactics to defend and promote encounters of the diverse portions of the population in situations of social vulnerability. The group was formed in 2015 through various actions in some shelter centers in the Bom Retiro region, especially Florescer, the first shelter in São Paulo for homeless transgender women.
The group was selected in 2016 by the Open Call for Collectives and since then continues to use Casa do Povo’s space for the development of its practices. The proposal developed during the residence, 69 Salas H & V, is based on a series of experiential laboratories and experiences that intend to think upon and discuss issues related to marginality based on the personal stories of the group members.
